Happy Easter! Happy Spring! Happy Belated Passover!
You might not celebrate Passover or Easter – but we all celebrate Spring. It gives us back hope, expectation and a fresh start. As buds force their way through the earth, and blooms burst into color, our hearts sing.
It is time to write. Maybe something new. Maybe breathe new life into seeds sewn last winter or before the pandemic started.
When we were little, each Easter we got clean dresses, fancy hats, and new white patent leather shoes. We lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, so just as it did this week – on the Reds’ season opener – sometimes it snowed on Easter, spoiling our illusions of the return of warm weather and easy living. By the time we’d walked from the car into church, we had wet bobby socks, grumpy faces, and felt ridiculous in our flowery hats.
It can be hard to entertain hope. It has humiliated us in the past. But now is a grand time to don a floopy, flowery hat and hope again. Especially as it pertains to writing.
What can I help you dig back in to? Please let us know what you’re working on, and what kind of help you might need, and we’ll see if we can be the Easter bunny, be the Spring rains and warming sun that can help your work germinate again.
We’ll be in the FB group – Write Without the Fight – keeping up the dialogues about creativity, creative process and of course, Spring. Come join us there. And share your Easter family pics!
Actually, that’s my First Holy Communion picture, though it could pass for an Easter family snapshot. Except the shoes are all old, and regular. Only I got new shoes for occasion. And who’s taking that picture?
