Have you written 50,000 words in NaNoWriMo??? Congratulations!! 402,000 people participated this year, and only 11% finished. So give yourself an enormous pat on the back!
Wow – oh – wow!
As I’ve said to people in my Mighty Writers Club, participating is everything! For me, what I’m writing is way more important than succeeding in the 50K word goal. (But, I wrote my goal, nonetheless. People in my Mighty Writer’s Club wrote a total of 150,000+ words!) Participating was already the win.
- You were motivated to write more.
- You made a lot of progress.
- You won, baby, no matter how many words you scribed.
But now, what?
From everything I’ve ever read, the worst thing you can say in a letter to an agent, is
“Dear Sir/Madame, Please read my new novel, that I just finished writing over NaNoWriMo.”
As proud as you feel, agents and publishers don’t care. It’s a cruel world, right?
NaNo, Now What?
Truly, you’re probably a little deflated after weeks of feverish writing, and wonder where to go next with this brilliant, if flawed, thing you wrote.
- Finish it
- Get it edited
- Get it published
- Build a following
I host a club – called the Mighty Writers Club, where we work on all those topics – how do you tap in to your finishing energy? How do you edit this work? There’s a library of programs and meetings ready for you to binge, if you’re in a rush. Or we meet each month 2x, to discuss and learn about all the moving parts of writing, editing and getting published.
Steven Pressfield says he edits his work 19 times before it gets published. The way he looks at it, that takes the pressure off. It doesn’t have to be perfect in this edit, there are still 18 edits to go.
And while you work on your writing and editing, we’ll help you build your following, and plan your launch.
Ready? Let’s talk. Tell me what you’ve written, what was your writing experience? Where are you now on yur NaNo project? What help do you think you need? Email me if you’d like to talk about what’s next for you and your NaNo work – and I’ll send you a link to schedule our talk. You’re my kind of person – a serious writer, who believed in herself enough to write throughout November.
