Facebook is teaming with awkward 10 year-olds standing somewhere in suburbia, with their siblings, holding a “First Day of School” slate, smiling reluctantly for their mom. (Presumably).
In our house, first days of school are well behind us. Back-To-School is such a deep and long experience in our lives, as children, as parents, and now as FB friends, that it still has its impact on our lives. We are pulled back to routine and order inexorably. sometime around Labor Day.
This is an opportunity for last barbeques and quick trips to the beach and the warmest water of the season, even as the sun slants differently and the temperatures are not reliable. As we frolic the last few times, we know what’s in store… routine.
In the northern half of the country, we put away bathing suits and pool toys, and think about winterizing. In the southern half, we still have hot weather until at least mid-October. But, though we have different weather experiences, the seasonal sensation is the same: we all get back “to school,” back on track.
As you ditch the grill for casseroles, and forego flip flops for boots, it can feel like a loss.
As Fall focus settles in on you, take a beat. Consider what you might want from that focus. Your human effort, energy and time are yours to invest. What would you like to achieve? Learn? Create? Write?
The season becomes a taskmaster – changes need to be made – but as you settle into new routines and expectations, where does your dream fit in? When does it get time? Keep an eye out for your own wishes.
If you have a book in limbo – something you would truly like to write – let the Mighty Writers help you get back on track.
We’re the back-to-school for all writers – community, accountability, and support.
We write together four days a week. You can join us 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours a week, and your book will grow. We have club meetings, for coaching and question-answering and learning strategies for finishing, publishing or promoting books, two times a month. I have four books published, and have coaching certificates and a Masters in the Science of Creativity. I serve our community. And the community has a lot of support and help to offer one another!
As September becomes October and November, you’ll be writing, instead of looking up, sometime in November, just as the holidays begin, and wondering if you could have gotten something BIG written. And we’re doing lots of new things this Fall – a Beta Reader club, a WIP reading, book planning for the disorganized, and more.
The 100 Writing Days of Summer ends this weekend. We have had a great summer writing together! Now, it feels like our parents are arriving to pick us up, and we have to say good-bye. Writing friends forever! Some we may not see till next summer. Some will continue with us in Mighty Writers. (Read more about it here.)
Who are you writing with? Who inspires action from you? How do you get back on track?
