If you were the troll under a bridge in a story you’re writing – what three questions would you ask? What are you dying to know the answer to?

A lot of my clients want to know – (in your best troll voice) “Why can I write easily sometimes and other times, not at all?”

or

“What is wrong with me? I start things all the time and never finish them.”

or (a troll usually gets 3 questions… )

“I know I’m creative, but how do I know if I’m any good?”

And if you’re like every protagonist in every story, you will face the troll from under the bridge, and take on his challenging questions. But how? Who must you slay? How can you display your strengths? How will your cleverness save you?

Facing a challenge can define us – show us our strengths, help us face our limitations. If we weren’t up for challenges, none of us would be writers. Your troll usually appears midway through a grander  – like a quest to save a Prince from a high tower. On the way you are met with a smaller challenge, which gives you a gift or secret power. Do you accept the challenge? Or do you procrastinate, watch tv or bake something complicated, and ignore the challenge?

I am that troll that blocks a bridge. And if you face my challenge, you will gain incredible insight into your self, your creativity and why you sometimes resist writing and/or promoting your work. (I happen to be a troll with a Masters in Creativity, but no judgement, right?) And the little known secret is, there are no consequences in this challenge. Everyone gains. Everyone who shows up for the challenge and commits, gets to cross the bridge and continue on their creative quest, empowered.
